  7. TragicWB is a substitute for the MagicWB pens daemon. "Not another
  8. one!" I hear you cry. Well read on and you will see why this is better
  9. than some of the others floating around.

  11. IMHO MagicWB is an overpriced collection of tasteless icons and
  12. backdrops coupled with a rather half-hearted palette hack. NewIcons
  13. offers a much better general solution to the icon colour problem
  14. and doesn't tie you down to a specific set of colours for your icons.
  15. NewIcons is also free. But unfortuantely NewIcons is unsuitable for
  16. use on slow machines, so there are a lot of MagicWB icons out there
  17. - MUI programs in particular tend to have MagicWB icons.

  19. MagicWB icons will not display correctly unless you are using the
  20. MagicWB palette and, what's more, some kind of palette hack to ensure
  21. that the MagicWB palette is used for colours 4-7 even if you have
  22. more than 8 colours on your Workbench screen. The MagicWB package
  23. contains a "palette daemon" which will do this for you, but $20 (or
  24. whatever MagicWB costs these days) seems a bit much to pay for a
  25. palette hack. So there are a number of free palette hacks around
  26. which will do the same. I think TragicWB is the most complete.

  28. Unlike some other palette hacks, TragicWB does not require you to
  29. enter the desired palette values. Since it is meant for use with
  30. MagicWB icons, pens 4-7 will automatically be set to the correct
  31. values. In addition, every time you re-open the Workbench screen,
  32. the pens will be reset (or at least they should be). All you have
  33. to do is add TragicWB to your user-startup (using the supplied
  34. installer script) and you need no longer worry about wrongly-
  35. coloured MagicWB icons.
